Choosing your own personal Style can be difficult at times, as can looking your best.

When I interview customers to have something custom made, I need to asses a lot of Factors to be sure to design something that the customer will look and feel their best in. Following are tips to help you asses your own personal dressing style, and physical features to get the best out of your clothes.

Firstly you need to know your personality or personal dressing style.

Surprising as it is we all seem to fall somewhere between the following five categories

Dramatic, Classic, Romantic, Natural, and Creative.

There are times when we are required to dress to a particular category, some workplaces dress code is Classic for example. But you will know which style you are most comfortable and more importantly Happy in! Most wardrobes contain something from each of these categories. Different situations and moods dictate what we choose to wear each day.

I discovered I am a Creative/ Dramatic dresser, Which explains why I was miserable at certain times in my life as my lifestyle dictated a Classic wardrobe. I now know how to slip a little drama into my look even when a classic look is required. So these descriptions whilst not definitive are helpful to understand.

The Dramatic look is Confident, attention getting, bold. Often using sharp angular lines and striking colours.  Dramatic women are in control, and thrive on energetic atmospheres and love excitement. No wall flowers here.

The Classic look is widely accepted as proper business attire. It is stylish, well made, timeless and gives an air of reliability.  The classic women is generally well organised, reliable, and trustworthy.  Well tailored classic pieces are the staple of this type of wardrobe.

The Romantic look is feminine and sometimes sexy, definitely graceful. This look is relaxed and gentle. Women who wear this style well are quietly confident, easy to get along with and are caring and sensitive. These women like the finer things in life and don’t like to be rushed. Lots of soft luxurious fabrics are found in a romantic wardrobe.

The Natural look is worn by women who are informal, Friendly, genuine and optimistic. They don’t like to be cooped up and often have jobs that have a large outdoor component. They are not too concerned about their appearance and would happily live in jeans and t-shirt given the chance. These women feel most comfortable in relaxed style that are wash and wear and allow plenty of movement.

The Creative dresser is artistic and creative. If you are not creative you will find this look difficult to successfully create as a creative dresser pulls together completely unrelated items of clothes and accessories and makes them work together. I never even realised I’ve always done this until an old friend told me that when I joined the hockey team people kept asking her about what I was wearing, she told them all I was an artist!

I hope this knowledge will help you understand yourself better and have you feeling great in which ever look you choose, for whichever occasion.

It is also handy to know your physical aspects so you can work with them.

I asses Proportion, scale, height, Line and Colour.
